Thailand is safe

Thailand is safe, even with the recent border conflict with Cambodia. While a few areas along the Thai-Cambodia border remain on alert for possible flare-ups, life in the rest of Thailand continues as usual.

That said, like anywhere in the world, Thailand does have pickpocketing, taxi scams, and other petty crimes, so it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings. The “Land of Smiles” still has lower crime rates than many other popular expat destinations, including several countries in Central and South America.

When deciding where to move abroad, it’s essential to research safety in each location. Even in generally safe countries like Thailand, unexpected situations can arise, so it’s a good idea to know the local emergency numbers and how your country’s embassy or consulate could assist you. Keeping their contact details on hand—or even registering with them—can provide extra peace of mind.
