Online Teaching Do’s #1: Be Extra Patient with Young Learners

When teaching children under 6 years old online, patience is everything. Unlike in-person classes, it’s much harder to hold their attention—distractions at home are everywhere!

Don’t be surprised if your little student wanders off-camera. Keep speaking to them in a cheerful voice and encourage them to come back. Most likely, their parent or guardian is nearby and will appreciate your persistence. They’ll often help get the child re-engaged.

Pro tip: Have several backup games and activities ready. Switching it up can quickly regain a child’s attention.

And if a student’s attention is consistently hard to hold, let your school or company know. They might have resources, tricks, or activity packs designed specifically for young online learners.
